I have a character there now, and so does Maj. I also made a linkshell called "Lucky XIV". My character name is... *drumroll* Elsie Rhon! And I'm in Gridania!
Out of all the opening cutscenes, I have to say I like Gridania's the absolute best

By the way, did you apply for the FFXIV Beta? If you get into that, you might be able to have a better idea of whether or not FFXIV will run on your laptop, and how well.

Ati control panel.. erm... there might be an ATI icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen, or it might come up under Start/Programs/ATI, or you might be able to find it under display properties in control panel.. I don't know, I have nvidia cards in mine, I forget where to find that. If you don't have it installed, then that might be part of the problem. Try installing the newest drivers for your card from the ati site

I don't know how much better yours can get, Maj, but it should be higher than that, I would think!

Sheesh, yeah, your PC has better specs than mine, but scored lower  Something's not right!

A few things to check:
Run some maintenance on your PC/laptop (run disk cleaner, defragment the hard drive, etc.)
Shut down all applications but the benchmark test (in my case, just closing Firefox added over 150 to my score )
Make sure your virus scanner is either disabled or not actively scanning (don't forget to re-enable it when you're done!)

That should help.
Also, were you running the higher resolution test or the lower one? I scored well within the "playable" range on the lower resolution one, and barely squeaked by on the higher

Oooh, also... how much memory do you have, what kind of processor, and what kind of graphics card?

I wouldn't worry too much about specific cards, but definitely run the benchmark test before you buy it!
